I don’t think banning is the answer. After all, we’ve had trolls before (and just bad writers) and banning was never the final outcome. We’re a peaceful community – despite the violence that comes out in a lot of the fiction – and I say we just ignore him, and don’t let him grace the top of the Active / Most Popular list, just because his views get our backs up.
Not really what Ficly is about, Bob. I’d agree with you about the uniqueness of Ficly and that it should not be changed, but I think you got a little too carried away with the Romanticism on this one.
Ficly is a place for everyone, and Cook!e should definitely be allowed to stay. Haha, I don’t think we have the right to ban certain members for their opinions. Cook!e obviously just feels a bit overwhelmed by having to shorten every story to a limit. And it is sad but true that longer stories (over sequels) usually fail to become popular, or be read at all.
Fighting hasn’t been limited to just Cook!e. Check some of the older Ficly stories and you’ll find some that struck up controversy on Ficly:
oh dearie me, I think we have unleashed something of a barbarian warrior within you, bob. Ignoring is often just as effective as banning and doesn’t leave a bad impression on us youngsters (=]). Some good comes from every evil and this little incident has certainly brought out the community spirit of ficly once more.
However angry it may make us we need to remember that retaliating is just sinking to his level. We’re authors, creative thingummybobs…and someone who asks us to change that isn’t worth getting all hot up about.
I was really mad when I read Cook!e’s crap but just take a deep breath and let it go. He’s hurt all of our principles but the guy hasn’t got a single friend on this site. He’s not gonna hang around so there’s no point in banning.
P.S. I did sneakily enjoy your rage and I appologise for the rather patronising content of this comment.
