Self-Referential Doggerel II
Some poems aren’t too hard to sequel, you know,
If you just take your time and think your way through ‘em.
First verses are toughest; you’re finding the flow.
But you’ll get it anon, and you’ll find you can do ’em.
The subsequent verses are simpler to write;
You’ve worked out the meter, the rhyme, and the rhythm.
The words will come easy, some good and some trite,
But it’s not where you find ‘em, it’s what you do with ’em.
It’s harder to rhyme than it is to write text.
Stories are written in minutes or seconds
But poems for hours can leave you perplexed
As you sort through the words and your cold dinner beckons.
So if you want someone to sequel your verse,
Someone who’ll take the time that’s required
To honor your words and who won’t be too terse,
I think that you’ve found the scribbler desired.
