Well done – the last paragraph seems the most like H. P. L.’s work – but the vibe carries through the whole piece.
The last line of the second paragraph seems to require editing, but that’s the only complaint (of a sort) that I have.
The sense of dark, brooding uncertainty is tangible. My favorite line throughout the entire work is “The thick wide leaves displayed curious pink flesh often associated with newborns.” Creepy! As sinister as hearing a little girl laugh in a deserted circus, right before the clown jumps out at you with a bonesaw. shivers
The last line is pure Lovecraft. This needs to continue. ~RT
Thank you Rose for your kind words and constructive criticism. I have fixed the last line in the second paragraph and will continue it when I feel a little better, unless some enterprising person takes up the torch, figuratively speaking.
The window into the perceptions and thoughts of the characters is what really made this for me. I’m not familiar with HPL’s work, but the association is understood.
