Across the Lot
He looked down at his phone again and was about to call his wife, when he stopped. He would have been home two hours ago from the part time job, but the voice message alert was not on. With it being close to midnight, Alison would have called him by now. He closed his phone and put it back into his pocket, while glancing around the parking lot.
The storm must have brought some rain, as the parking lot was wet. It must not have been heavy, as the lot was slightly wet. Enough to reflect a mixture of blackness and light together, from various lights in the lot and the night sky. He looked towards the store and something seemed to draw him towards it. The lights were still on, even though the automatically turn off at a specific time, after the store closes.
As he started to walk towards the store, two things kept sticking in his mind. There were no other sounds, except for his footsteps on the wet asphalt. Even the freeway behind the store was quite. The second was if it had rained, why was his car still dry?
