A rogue in the middle of Central Park. Kill count: 97 and rising. Every sniper that had gotten inside his range died before even loading their rifle. The rogue was listening for them. A sniper’s mind is very distinct.

We walked over the bodies. Residual energy rose off of them like heat waves.

He turned when we appeared. He was quick, but his thoughts bounced off our shields.

I mean, what were the odds? The speed of thought is between 550 and 750 milliseconds. The timing was impossible.

By fluke they hit each other at the same time.

The psychic feedback loop killed every unshielded person in a 7 mile radius. The telepathic fallout put people into comas up to 25 miles away.

It was round about then the world went to hell.
