Mind Over Matter

It was a strangely peaceful watching the war unfold in the city below. There was no gunfire, no blood, no explosions. Just peace.

Well, not exactly.

Two soldiers locked eyes across the battlefield, their psyches meshing and melding as one fought for dominance over the other. Around them, their comrades died as their will gave out, their life snuffed out by overpowering mental strength. The two warriors were oblivious to it as their minds fought for control over the city block, each lashing out at any who faltered in concentration, sapping his foes strength one man at a time.

Ripples of energy blasted out from each soldier, meeting in invisible explosions of opposite energy that sent out violent psychic shock-waves, reverberating throughout the city, threatening to crush all minds like a person would crush a bug.

But neither soldier dared to blink, even as their eyes burned in the frigid winter wind.

Because if you blinked, you died.
