It Was the Snake That Brought Us Together

It was a simple evening, and a bland one at that. The long summer day was dwindling to an end, and a hush had fallen over the land. Since the beginning of the afternoon, Lily had done nothing but sit beneath her favorite apple tree and her favorite Jane Austen book. Feminism at its finest. That was just about when the snake spotted her.
It made its way over to her naked feet slowly but surely. And it crawled straight up her—-
“AH! THERE’S A SNAKE ON MY LEG!” she screamed in an almost unbearable shrilly voice. She flung the snake away as fast as possible, as if it had the plague. And that was when it landed in the stream, with a sickening plop. She heaved a sigh of relief, and five seconds later came the screaming of a fisherman. She ran quickly over to help him, pulling him up and off the dock, and he quickly removed his sandal and kicked the snake back over the dock. The fisherman turned to thank the anonymous woman, and he paused.
And it was love at first sight.
