The Ultimate Chronicle - Part 47

“How can you understand freedom? You, who are nothing but a pawn of destiny? For there to be light, there must be dark. For there to be good, there must be evil. You and I are two halves of a cosmic whole, fated to war always.” Rasputin and Lincoln circled around each other. Lincoln’s gauntlets crackled, and his goggles reflected the light of the Staff of Ra. “For there to be freedom, this charade must end. Light or dark must triumph!”

“My thoughts exactly,” said Lincoln. They rushed in, and their weapons met in a cataclysmic crash. They pushed the locked weapons together, their faces almost touching.

Rasputin screamed “If you are free, walk away! Don’t you see? You must always do what is right. You are a slave to your own nature!”

They broke apart with an explosion that rippled for miles. Lincoln’s broken gauntlets fell from his numb hands. He lay unmoving, unable to stand. Rasputin’s staff lay in shards.

“And now, Lincoln,” said Rasputin, picking up a shard of the staff. “Prepare for your emancipation.”
