Nice vision of the apocalypse. I didn’t quite follow the last line. Did you mean they couldn’t stand to watch the news cause it was so depressing or that nobody was physically able to stand up to turn the TV on? It works either way, but the ambiguity of the phrasing just left me wondering.

I meant it to be the first interpretation, actually, but the second one sounds nice, though doesn’t seem to make sense in context. I mean, Noah stands some times. XD
