Falling on deaf ears.
She was bent over the suitcase, trying to make the armful of clothes fit. She hadn’t been there for more than five minutes. Even so, it was too long. They entered without a sound, the door had been left open.
“Angie.”
She froze.
“Mr. Rossi wants you to know that he’s very sorry. But also that you brought this on yourself. Everyone has to answer for their actions, no excepetions.”
“Fuck you Tony! You don’t fucking speak for him when I’m around!”
She spun to look at her father, standing between two well dressed men.
“How can you do this? Daddy? How?” Her hands were trembling, and she tried to signal what she wanted to say.
Her father remained silent.
I’m sorry. My heart broke when you went against family. No exceptions.
He couldn’t hear her pleas, or the gunshots as he walked away.
To him, it was as if they never happened.
