A sweet little story. I like that there is a bit left unsaid. It seems like the girl is okay or no disabled, but perhaps she just is aware of disability because of her mother. The end was just adorable too.
Minor nitpick: Typo in second sentence with ‘a’ instead of ‘an’ before ‘iron’.

We can care because we feel compelled to, or care because we’re inspired to.
