This is the best in the challenge thus far, in my opinion.
Robert, I want to thank-you for putting “fiction” in the tags for this piece. You did such a good job describing the mixed emotions without giving too much of a hint to the reason for them. You illuminated the dark abyss of guiltiness nicely.
The “Sword of Damocles” was a nice, subtle revelation of the teller’s feeling. Perhaps this would have stood alone on its own, without the mention of suicide, for a more dramatic effect?
