“Well, you’re a Barrister and I need you. There’s a move to stake Catherine down. These old and wealthy men, who live with clean hands, are tired of losing their purses. Since baiting has become popular and socially acceptable, these men have spent a fortune on breeding the perfect Bear Baiting dog. Most of them have moved their dogs to bait bulls. The bulls are tied down and most spectators find THAT inhumane having the actual advantage removed. Why must the rich always insist on earning money the easy way, even while gambling? My father thinks his dogs are sold to game hunters and shipped across Europe. He doesn’t know that his own daughter is purchasing them through a third party and forging fake shipping documents. We almost got caught but now we dust the dogs with coal powder to change their color.
“Where would my services come in?” he asked.
“Bait them. Most are turning their ledgers into fables. I want their accounts staked and ripped apart, I want blood” she pauses, “and sport”!
