A little confusing for me regarding color. “Gold” and “blushing” and “rosy” are definitive.

Red ruby’s range in hues from slight orange to strong purple. ruby red could mean many hues within the class of red ruby’s.

My great Uncle was a rock hound and argued this many times. Basically, hyphens replace “ish”. So you might write ruby-red or ruby reddish.
