The repetition in verse adds to the anxious longing of the need for a reply. Hoping, yearning, wanting, and needing an answer. The writer gives every opportunity for a return before getting gone; slowly walking away, hoping to be called back. Poison lies? Feeling ‘nothing invested’ and ‘nothing to lose’, yet still ‘on the fence’? That sounds like the poison lies we tell ourselves – well versed.
I relate so closely to this. If one is allowed to walk away, then that is the other’s answer. Stunning. I loved the repetition and how it felt like achain of thought or a heated one-sided argument as the other has it’s head in it’s hands praying to God for the answer.
