There’s a typo on the last line: ‘bushed’ instead of bushes.
I like that you start the piece with a rational explanation of what would have happened had he run, and then ended it with a fanciful one. It’s a nice contrast to most stories which begin with the fantasy and then calmly expose it as false.
However, I think we need to know what happens a few moments after where you end the story – what were the consequences of his actions?
