Sorry, I guess this story is almost too real to me I forgot that it might need some clarification. She didn’t tell him that she cheated, he found out from a mutual friend and couldn’t confront her. He knew that if he asked her about it she would admit and break down, and then he would have no other choice but the break up with her. He was really in love with Sara.
