A Million Miles Left
He stared at his empty cup.No more beer to be had, he had to be sober.
His friends weren’t holding back. It’s only right to celebrate a personal victory.Another dragon slayed. He sat across the room and simply observed them.Age doesn’t make us wiser, it only leaves us with more questions. He could not answer them here.
His decision had been made.No one would stop him this time.
He got up, slightly dizzy, didn’t say good bye. He was outside, sitting in his car. Still fighting himself. He didn’t even notice her creeping ever closer. She rapped lightly on the glass.
“Leaving without saying good bye?”
He didn’t look at her.Didn’t say anything. The passenger’s side window went down slowly. He turned around to face her.
“Sorry about that, got a lot to do tomorrow, can’t disappoint”
“It’ll be alright”
“Yeah, congratulations again”
“Meh” she replied, smiling.
“I’m leaving now, take care of yourself, Claire”
“Bye, Martin”
Martin Noble sped off, never to see Claire, or any of his friends ever again. He was happy.
