Like A Tractor Beam
Joe unplugged his headset and walked outside to smoke a cigarette. Once he was outside of Julie’s spell, he remembered that he hadn’t seen Dawn all day. He took a drag of his cigarette and pulled out his i-phone. The call went straight to voice mail. That’s weird, he thought. She always has her phone on even when she’s on the call center floor.
Joe felt like a tractor beam was pulling him toward the stairs.
What if Cory hadn’t been joking around? Dawn could be in trouble. Joe took the stairs two at a time to the roof, hoping she wouldn’t be there. He pushed the latch on the door and stepped out onto the roof. “Dawn, are you up here?” Joe said.
And then he was met with a surprise. The bowling ball was coming straight for him at an unreasonable speed. Joe tried to dodge Cory’s running charge, but found himself forced to the floor and hogtied.
Just then, Skyler emerged from the shadows.
“I told you he’d fall for it,” Skyler said.
“What’s… going on? Joe said. And then the lights went out …
