As a dog owner, I have to say Rhodes is an idiot; sticking the puppy’s nose in it and spanking it does work for most puppies, but takes weeks to teach. Try the crate method guys and gals. More effective, and less stressful on the puppy and owner.

Anywho, the story was cute, and like the others comments, I don’t get the metaphor thing…must be an inside joke.

It might not be the metaphor that RQ intended, but I see a metaphor for child rearing here. And it is both amusing and disturbing.
The biggest clue is when Rhodes says “I’ve got three of my own.”
