I do feel that there’s more story here that needs to be told between these two chapters to explain what triggered the decision eight years later to travel to Puerto Rico and locate Felipe. A bad break-up, perhaps, or some other life change?

Also, you might want to include in your story some information that explicitly shows that your protagonist is a gay male. While reading, I was under the assumption that the protagonist was a teenaged girl and didn’t realize it was otherwise until I happened to glance at the tags.

So things to think about: As a teenager, does your character know he’s gay or are these new feelings for him? Is he openly gay or in the closet? And is Felipe aware and maybe reciprocate these feelings?

A potentially good story, but some blanks still need to be filled.
