Symptomless
Rebecca noticed a strange bump on her inner arm. There was also a small prick of blood. It didn’t hurt, but it was ugly and swollen.
“What a weird lump.” she thought to herself. “Probably a bug bite.”
A few days later, Rebecca was stretching at her yoga class when her friend exclaimed,
“Jesus! What happened to your arm?”
She glanced at the place the lump had been.
To her surprise, it was about three times the size.
“Um, I don’t know actually. Maybe a bug bite?”
Her friend shuddered.
After the gym she called and scheduled an appointment to have it looked at. She felt kind of silly, going to the doctor for something so petty.
Rebecca saw her doctor.
He examined the lump.
“Does it hurt?” he asked.
“No.”
“Does it itch?”
“No.”
“Do you have any pets?”
“No.” She was beginning to feel really stupid for even coming in.
The doctor shook his head solemnly.
“I wish you would’ve come in a few days ago.”
She looked at him surprised.
“Why is that?”
“Because then there might’ve been some chance of saving the arm.”
