I really enjoyed this Miles. It’s difficult to step into such a small frame of one slice of one moment and then stretch it into a piece of eternity. I’m there, sitting on the tailgate of my pick-up truck watching the ancient sun sink and dreaming of the day when beer and cigarettes wouldn’t be the status symbols I needed to get a girl.

The story of many an adulthood. Hopefully, this is the exact impetus that pushes myself and many other adults to get out of the rut and do something else!

Made me think of F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I know how that goes. Except I don’t smoke. Or drink, really.

I love the part where you describe holding smoke in the lungs as ‘keeping it safe’. I agree with the people comparing the piece to Fitzgerald.
