Can’t tell if the speaker is ‘her’ or someone else, but I think about all the times we are not fine but answer ‘fine’ when a person asks how we are. For me, it took a little while to get into this piece, but by the pool of brown and the swimming I really got it. The more I think about it, the more clever it gets. Even the repetition of the pictures and dress that first bugged me actually help to convey the dreamlike quality.
