I like how you made this somewhat more hopeful, and you started off well. The last paragraph caused me to stumble a bit during the read, but the embracing of the character’s self in the last line was quite nice.

Aww, and the narrator comes full circle. I like this. We are ourselves regardless… and yet we come to depend so much on others for our stability, and happiness, and sense of self.
