Liquid fire and the mention of ‘roman coke’ (rum and coke) as well as the uncapitalized letters all work to give this a drunken feel.
The inability to express how one feels is easy enough to fail at sober. Being drunk and trying to do so is usually many times more difficult— even if popular culture and its legions of imitators will argue the opposite :)
This works on a level of self defeating sorrow— and I can totally relate.
I agree with Tad, it’s a sad piece, full of a lot of longing. I wasn’t sure though, that the speaker was meant to be drunk as her wrote it… could go either way, I suppose.
i didn’t think the speaker was drunk, maybe they were buzzed at most.. it is full of longing and regret and guilt. Those things come with or without the drink and i’ve never known it to be a cure.
