Just Lunch
It was just the two of us again sitting across from each other, me with my hot chocolate, her with her tea.
“You dating anybody yet?”
I hated that question. “Nope.”
“What about that cute girl in your, ummm, profile pic.”
“Actually, I don’t even know her name. She was just a stranger walking by who had the same shirt on as me.”
“So how come you haven’t found some nice girl. I’m sure that there’s someone out there for you.”
I shrugged and looked out into the dense grayness of the fall sky.
“You’re still not over me?” Kay asked increduously.
“Some things are worth keeping around. I consider my feelings for you to be one of those things. I’m sorry if you don’t agree.” I watched her face for anything that would let me know she felt the same way. If anything her face grew harder.
“Honestly this is pathetic. If I’d known we were just going to rehash whatever this is, I’d never agreed to come see you.”
“I didn’t trick you into coming here, hell I didn’t even ask you to. You asked to meet me for lunch.”
