The New Guys: Friendship Tokens

“But I haven’t agreed to sign on, and what about them?” I asked as I nodded at Flint and Jessica.

“They’re Junior League, I didn’t want you to feel alone. They signed on last year.”

I didn’t know if I felt fooled or thankful for having some experience around me. But I know I don’t like getting played with. I’m a very upfront person, and a loyal friend. And I don’t like games. People meet other people in two ways. Either with one hundred percent trust, or zero. They either lose or gain.

“Jessica” I asked, “if we’re going to be a team, I have to ask you a question. If a friend calls you and tells you they have a dead body in their house, what would you do?”

She didn’t hesitate, “I would tell them I was on my way over with a shovel.”

“No, a sword” Flint chimed in, “a really big-ass katana, especially if the body is too large to move. Smaller pieces are much easier to deal with…..so, are you in or what?”

“You get a free token with every beer too” Gustav enticed.

It sure feels good to be wanted.
