You took this in such a different direction than I imagined, and it is awesome. This is why I love ficly. You added so much to their relationship, deepened the frivolity of the passport, making it a split second and stupid decision. You added elements of abuse to their relationship and made him even colder towards her. I had the thought that perhaps he wanted to be free to date girls in Denmark, so he broke off something good with her, but you made him so more of a snake than I had dreamed. So different, yet capturing the elements of the prequel.
Thank you so much, and your story was the inspiration. It also shows who we are more empathetic towards. Remember, I’m gay, I totally empathize with Cree, I made the exact same mistakes (no passport, but a rental lease) she did, and poof! He was gone in a cloud of lies. I see her too, like me, more angry about the lies, than the short term anger about another’s truth. But then again, most (men) people like Greg, don’t know the reasons themselves, so they make up “false truths”. And I left Cree stronger and wiser but with the coat, turning her bad experience into a “warm” reminder. She’s also learned one of life’s great lessons: we can learn more from our enemies than our friends.
I thought this sequel was a great continuation of the first part. I admire how you both can create this immediately recognizable archetype of the jerk boyfriend through his dialogue.
