A Cold Night in October

Standing amidst barren trees and under stars
It is summer again
Two people meet awakening tides of emotions
Long since abandoned
Blood roars along hot beds of both of their veins
One wears a false face
Hope and Fear battle for eons; for seconds
She looks for escape
Taking cues from past mistakes he doesn’t wait
Leans in for promises
She turns away denying the open gate
Modesty her defense
Ivy covered walls of soft pale stone shield her
Hope dies and hearts break
Pain crawls out of the ground and howls in frustration
Leaving an open grave
Standing amidst barren trees and under stars
Summer is a memory
Autumn’s the dying time before Winter’s endless sleep
Let unrequited love cease
