“You look like a little girl.”
That was the best compliment I had received in a very long time.
The dark wash jeans and ruffled sweater I was wearing could have contributed to this, but I knew thats not what she meant.
I was trying to conceal it as much as I was trying to flaunt it.
 “I don’t like this.”
I wanted to smile at her dismay.
 “You’re very tiny.”
 I shrugged my shoulders.
 This was what you wanted.
She shook her head and glanced over my physique once again.
I had to bite my lip to prevent myself from smiling.
She walked slowly up the stairs and I waited for the click of her closing bedroom door.
With shaking hands, I took the plate off the counter and deposited my lunch in the trash.
My heart began to beat rapidly as I heard footsteps coming down the steps.
I quickly sat down with an empty china plate in front of me.
“Good,” she commented. “That’s what I like to see.”
 She was pleased.
 I was pleased.
 It was all okay.
