Cool idea and loose enough to be its own story but still fit into the challenge. I like the nod to writing and its importance for you character. It’s not a straight out ficly reference, but I think we can all, or at least most of us, relate to valuing writing highly.

Not approving of drug usage whatsoever, but I like the concept that he’s scared of losing himself because of the drugs.
I am wondering what he has escaped which makes it suspenseful and an attention grabber for sure.

I was very drawn in by this story and how he is scared of waking up a stranger as you say. It was well written and quite intriguing. Well done.
