What a wonderful piece of writing! What a craftsperson you are.

How blessed am I to have picked this one out of the bunch to read before I start work.

Your ramshackle meanderings paint a fantastic picture that makes it so easy to understand and fit into the scene. Jumping from one thought to the next, it is a truly animated state of panic this poor cad is in. Putting it all in the one paragraph is so totally appropriate too.

And the climax is the crowning glory in my opinion, leaving it open-ended for the reader to confound themselves wondering what happened. It could make for a good piece to write a sequel to.
