No. This will not be our grave. After a little bit of thought it hit me. Lieutenant Wilson had rigged the field with plastic explosives. Enough to take out the entire brigade. But Wilson’s dead body laid almost fifty yards away. Our commanding officer had broken his ankle and two others were badly injured. I was the only one fast enough to get there and back. The two other non-injured soldiers were Lt. Miller and Lt. Davis. Davis: “You can’t its suicide. We should just sit back and wait for support”. No they wont come in time, by the time they arrive we will all be corpses. Miller: “No Dave he’s right. If we want to get out of here alive those charges must be detonated,Me and Davis can give you cover fire with the MG’s.” We all said a prayer, stood up and prepared for possibly our last mission. I started to move throughout the trenches as Miller threw flares to distract the patrol. I ran and dove from side to side and all I could think about is going home to see my family…
