The song in question is ‘Rambunctious Boy’ by John Fogerty…though it may technically be credited to Creedance Clearwater Revival, of which he was the lead singer.
I love your story tags…I’ve taken to reading them before the actual piece and trying to guess at the content. I haven’t been even close so far =D.
Sadly…All names starting with “emm…” make me think of twilight. Dang that abomination for ruining my perspective!!!
Anyway…cute little story with a great main character. I love his typically boyish curiousity, and how he isn’t at all bothered by the teachers attitude.
I don’t actually know the song…but I like how you blended it into the story instead of making it stand out. Brilliant as ever… Abby x
Very enjoyable. It makes me think of special kids who get bored with standard educational practices. People like Einstein, Jobs, and the fictional Doctor Sheldon Cooper come to mind.
How many self-expressive acts of creativity and intelligence end with a kid being disciplined instead of applauded?
I enjoy that he knows he is going to get in trouble, but doesn’t care a lick.
“From floor…” in the second paragraph was confusing, and figure it’s just a typo…considering your incredible pace with NaNoWriMo, I am just appreciative you have any time to write something on Ficly at all.
I hate to be negative, but a couple of minor things collectively derail this story for me, and I hope you do not mind my saying so.
He hadn’t figured the log cabin of pencils would go flying when he tipped over.
The sentence ends in a preposition. I know better than anyone that the rules of grammar are made to be broken, but in this case I’m left asking, “tipped what over?” Himself? The chair? The desk? The log cabin?
The second is the cliché “from on high.” It’s just so… cliché.
The third is a sudden change in tense, “He made no move to collect of the bright yellow #2’s, instead plopping himself into the seat.”
I’m sorry. I wanted to like the story for what it was (and I feel mean because everyone else liked it), but I just couldn’t.
