The first three-quarters of this is not only seamless: it’s also engaging. It isn’t remoely difficult to imagine a youngish lady and the wizard that enjoys entertaining her. The last quarter seemed more forced.

On the other hand, being the fairly recent owner of a dog, I am fully aware that, while human names are conveyed aurally, dog names are most likely conveyed through scent. If dogs have names for each other, that is.

Magical back and forth between the two, and even felt like there was some subtext or at least some potential layers to their relationship.

I seem to recall reading a sci-fi story recently where smell was a big part of communication. It’s a neat idea, very foreign from how we operate.

Yeah, the end was a bit forced, trying to get the final line in.. but alas, such is the nature of the challenge..
