Hey, new ficler here. I could not find any challenge rules or guideliness, so I don’t know how loosely inspired on the fodder can a story be to participate. Very loosely, I hope? :P
Welcome to Ficly and thanks for entering such a wonderful story.
Challenger here: No rules really. If you felt inspired to write something that’s outside the guidelines, write it anyway. If the challenge is specific, just write a stand-alone story, who cares where you got your inspiration..right?
I think you missed the word “on” in “I put my blindfold”, or meant to write it another way. Didn’t hinder the story in anyway though, great job.
So the challenger sets the rules. And you’re a lenient one. Great!
I was afraid I might have to butcher the ending, which I didn’t see coming until he put his blindfold on. Perhaps something like: "Her voice was so intriguing, her manners so natural, and she smelt of lavender and ginger, just like mom— “Wait, mom?” “Johnny, is that you!?”
Haha, and I still might, in the standard place for butchering… though the collaborative spirit of Ficly makes sequels something to actually hope for, and that is what attracted me to the site.
Thanks for the correction, the challenge, and the welcome.
I like this take on the challenge, my stomach is much more settled after reading than the other entries! It’s sweet, and the moral here is that to fall in love, and stay in love, you should never take off your blindfold. :)
Though I must say that I like my sweets with some sour, my glasses half empty, and half full… so I would ask of you, can love at first sight -or more extreme, first listen- be “real”? Isn’t it rather a product of superficiality, fear and desperation, as it was for our blindfolded friend?
Going a bit further, don’t we too often see only what we want to see, and read what we want to read, through the blindfold of our tastes and desires?
Me, I love to be blinded and dazzled… but I will always consider peeking out. A little pinch can’t hurt… or can it? ;)
