New Year, New Age

White lights flow into the street
Banners flap in the wind
Hordes of people flock to the clock tower
A year births itself as the last comes to an end

A world of cheer and resolution
No more will the world be that which was
Another has taken its place
A brave new world for us

The people we were
Are now be filled with souls of a new age
And I, too, am born again
Alike every other day

How is today so different?
Am I somehow altered, changed by this event?
Alas, Rome was not built in a day
And neither was I transformed

But this newly seen horizon
Gave rise to opportunity
To shape who is to be known
As the man I became in this happy new year
