This is pretty sad how someday this could happen to us. I guess we all have to enjoy life while we are able.

Maybe it’s just me, but the 3rd sentence in your first paragraph is…really long.
you could have a period after “He struggled to get out of bed.” then “He tried to go to the bathroom..etc” then period perhaps after “63 years” and then start “Now he is resigned to..etc.”
Just something to look at

Coming from someone who has experienced this, I can honestly say that you nailed it. The emotion is there. The empathy is there. And the rawness is present too.
