The Silk Lily: Meeting Expectations
Standing in the doorway was Ran, the guard in charge of the day to day security of the Silk Lily. Broad shouldered and strong, he was known for the curious staff he wielded instead of the more traditional sword and even more for his temper. Both were evident as he surveyed the room with a scowl, waving the staff back and forth.
“What is the meaning of this?” he demanded. “Why are you destroying the room in this way?”
Tetsuko was instantly on her knees, head down. “I apologize, I will clean it up immediately.”
“You have also destroyed the harmony of this house. If you are not careful, you will be sent to the country-side. You would not like that one bit. I hear the women there have to dress up like sheep to compete for customers.” Ran chuckled.
Kiri stayed silent through the exchange and Tetsuko was grateful. She could feel the child shivering in terror.
“Yes, of course. This is all my fault. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it.” Tetsuko said.
“See that you do. I’d hate for anything bad to happen to you.”
