Best Day
Leo squinted at the sun, flowers in hand. He didn’t even know if she liked dead plants as a sign of affection. He walked down the sidewalk as a bicyclist barely avoided hitting him. Normally he might have mentally scolded the bicyclist, but today he gave the bicyclist no mind. Today nothing was going to ruin this day. He checked the time on his waistcoat pocket watch and selected her apartment at the call box.
“Come on up!” came a cheerful chirp from the call box as the door seemed to unbolt itself.
Leo entered the building bristling with anticipation. He arrived at her door and hesitated. Whats the worst that could happen?
He knocked and she answered the door almost immediately. “Hi darling! You brought flowers! Thank you so much! Let me find a vase.” She grabbed the flowers from him.
“Hey honey, I have something very important to tell you…” he began.
“I know. I’ve been hired to kill you.” She pointed a gun at him and shot him between the eyes. “I like the flowers though.”
