In Silence and In Health

Her name was as soft as she was spoken,
I was overjoyed to hear it said,
Though she’d never leave silence broken,
Starving reticence left unfed.
Her lovely thoughts never left her head.
It was in this challenge I defied,
To make her heard though she would dread,
To chance a word, thus she’d confide
In tranquil silence she does abide.

Quick my love, before I must leave!
I am in favour to a friend,
But I must know that you can achieve,
To break the quiet in which I contend,
Silence needn’t break, but it must bend.
An open mouth, but nothing is uttered.
She needs to attack but can only defend,
The iron curtain that powers her shutter,
No whispers, or cries, not even a stutter.

How can you hide your beauteous song?
Such a gift is scarce to see
And to bury it away seems wrong.
You dazzle in refusing me,
I leave you in your soundless wake
To endure the patience you’ve given me
Until the day your silence breaks.
