Friends 'Til the End

Frog was taking a formaldehyde bath one morning when all of a sudden he had the most excellent idea. “Toad has been very sad lately,” he said. “Perhaps I’ll pay him a visit. I’ll take him some of my famous chocolate-chip cookies. That should cheer him up!”

Toad was still fast asleep when Frog approached Toad’s jar. “There’s such a smell of onions,” said Frog. Frog was aware that Toad had already been partly dissected but removed him from his jar and woke him regardless.

“Drat,” said Toad. “I’m all exposed. My insides are drying out! – Please dab a sponge of water on my heart,” he asked.

“Okay,” offered Frog, “Now stretch your arms full length before you.”

“When I do that, I can’t contain myself.” yelled Toad.

“Yes. I know,” said Frog. “But I’ll give you a cookie if you do.”

“One of your famous chocolate-chip cookies?” asked Toad.

“Yes,” said Frog, “one of my famous chocolate-chip cookies.”

Toad sighed. “Oh, okay.”

And Frog and Toad spent the rest of the day… eating every last chocolate-chip cookie.
