Jennifer Gostelow reminds me of a story from the Australian secret service. For some reason, a CIA agent had gone in drag to a state function. A British diplomat began flirting with him, which of course the agent felt obliged to reciprocate. Throughout the night the diplomat’s hand slipped higher and higher up the agent’s leg, until the agent – worried that his cover was up – sprawled a message on a napkin and passed it to the diplomat: ‘Show no surprise when you get to the balls’.
