You buried some nice social commentary in there. Took me two reads to notice. Nicely done!

That last line is heartbreak.

Very well paced, stoic exploration of a mundane moment. I like how all that sets up not just the sadness of the last line but the sense of utter defeat overall. Very nicely done. A comma splice or two in there that could use cleaning up.
