Choices for the Chosen: Discretion...

As one, the six of us surged to the window ledge. I’m not sure which one of us was most surprised to see Roy floating to the ground like an old balloon. Apparently he had learned to do something more than turn his body into iron.

Below him the city looked ruined. Many of the surrounding buildings had been blasted into heaps of rubble. Red glows and marked where fires raged out of control. I still couldn’t tell who was fighting who.

Wait, did Roy expect us to jump after him? That was ridiculous. Thankfully, I wasn’t the only one to have that thought.

“I’m not doing that.” Adam said.

“I didn’t even know homeboy could do that.” Javier said in a low voice. He kept fading in and out of view, never truly disappearing but becoming translucent like a ghost.

“Shit, it looks like fun to me. Besides if he misses, it’ll only hurt for second.” Vanessa gave a throaty laugh.

Blaine was emphatic. “I don’t want anyone else jumping. There’s no reason to take more chances than we have to. Just take the goddamn stairs.”
