The room was silent. The gap between songs was always the hardest part. Music was sustaining him now like petrol fumes in a thirsty engine and any unwanted silence filled him with nausea. He clicked, glassy eyed, on the tiny two-dimensional logos. Highlighted in a tiny blue box they looked all the more radiant, hopeful and mis-led. His heart burned. Fire engulfed his eyes. He moved the mouse cursor to the delete button and paused. Melancholy washed over him like lava. Pain filled his throbbing temples. He clicked.

In an instant the world slowed down. The single, lonely click echoed through the universe, alerting the entirety of existence to the sacrifices which had been made in vain.

The world took a moment of silence by way of respect.
The moment ended.
The music played on.
