A Motion Between Two Mysteries

It happens to the best of us.
One minute, the word, the thought, the emotion
is on the tip of your tongue, about to burst.
The next, it’s gone.
Misplaced.
Forgotten.
It comes swiftly, like a thief, and leaves
no survivors.
Some claim they have tricks to remember:
Eating blueberries,
Memorizing names, faces, facts,
Staying away from the black hole of pleasure,
but I know better.

You can try all you want to avoid it,
but it comes anyways.
You will forget the lives you thought you lived
and all the moments in between.
