Stolen Luggage
5:00 AM. Chicago.
Jason Hemshaw fumbled for his watch in the darkness of the bedroom. Finding it at last, he hurriedly stopped the alarm’s insistent vibrations and, taking care not to wake his wife, crept out of the bed.
He gestured a small lamp on and proceeded to dress in the low light. Finished and sporting a pinstripe grey suit, he entered the bathroom and groomed his sandy hair before snatching his briefcase and returning to the bedroom. After quietly kissing his wife on the forehead, he left the apartment.
Jason then jogged in the early darkness for nearly twelve minutes until he reached the nearest public relay station. Entering the crowded building, he swiped his
Trans-Atlanticâ„¢ member card and selected his usual destination. Once he was inside the terminal, the door sealed and he dematerialized.
5:35 AM. Paris.
Jason Hemshaw exited his terminal, collapsed, and two minutes later died of internal trauma.
The autopsy report declares he was missing his heart and liver upon rematerialization.
