Ficly

Sign twirler.

He walks the Santa Monica Pier until he finds a good spot with heavy foot traffic. Tom sets his signs down and opens his backpack, taking out a stickered stereo and cassette tapes. Each tape is marked with a topical title: Abortion kills Babies, The End of the World is Coming, Repent!, Homosexuality is Wrong.

“Today feels like the End of the World”, he mutters to himself.
Tom pops the tape in, pushes play, grabs the appropriate sign, and waits for the tape to begin. And then he starts twirling. Cheerfully, gleefully, the sign flips and twists in the air – between twirls he waves to onlookers, mimes fantastic expressions, and occasionally throws a “thumbs up” and a smile in an onlooker’s general direction.

The stereo blares:
“Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.”

And so each day Tom fulfills his promise to God.
Lord, what can I do?
Do what you can do. Do what you know.
